A world-class academic writing and analysis program for ambitious

AP, IB, S.T.E.M., GIFTED  &

HONORS PROGRAM

High school students who want to earn top English grades, gain acceptance into first-rate university programs, thrive in university classes,
and become articulate and confident writers for life.

  • You’re an ambitious student who understands that strong writing and analysis skills are an invaluable asset for outstanding academic achievement and your future career.
  • You value being an articulate and confident writer and you know that to be a top student, to thrive in university and to be a leader in the future, the way you construct phrases and sentences, identify nuances and create links between ideas, is a key element to success.
  • You’re a S.T.E.M., Honours /Gifted Program, IB, or AP student getting top or near-top marks in all or most of your subjects (especially the sciences or maths), but your English marks are a little lower.
  • You’re frustrated with the subjective English marking found in most classrooms and you want a logical approach to writing academic essays and analyzing fiction and non-fiction in order to give you control of your academic performance.
  • You don’t necessarily like reading, English, or the study of Literature, but since you value learning, you’re open to the idea of an English program that could help you appreciate what you’re reading and develop your ability to see connections where you couldn't see them before.

Outstanding writers don’t start their journey by picking up a pen and magically creating engaging content.

They practise writing over a period of time and eventually reach the point when their work becomes published and known.
Without practising what we want to become good at, we never become great; every student is capable of great writing that they feel proud of sharing because they have reached the point where they can evaluate texts critically and articulate insights.

So, when the school classroom setting does not offer students the luxury of being taught by writing experts or the luxury of time spent on guided writing with expert feedback, students don’t know what they are capable of and they accept mediocrity.

Student potential is not cultivated, and with each passing year, frustrations increase as The Analytical Gap grows: teachers want students to interpret readings critically, and expect they do this for A-level results, but they do not have the time to spend teaching students analysis, and many don’t have the training either.

However, with some dedication and time, students can grow their writing and analytical powers, and greatly enjoy the process! The D.M.A. Method makes the learning of analytical tools, interpretation and academic writing engaging and fun. It emboldens and empowers students; it gives them control of their marks; it makes them confident; and it prepares them for the future.

It’s time to discard mediocrity, and empower high schoolers through excellent writing skills.

Why aren’t you writing to your potential?

I’ve been both the frustrated student

(who received 94% in my Senior year of English and then got 72% on my first literary analysis in university), and the frustrated teacher. I’ve stood in front of a classroom, followed the prescribed curriculum, assigned the essay challenging topics, engaged students in stimulating discussions interpreting texts, and expected that all this and the occasional analysis of an outstanding student essay will inspire my students to write jaw dropping essays.
I understood that my students won’t get better marks and learn to be articulate writers through only insightful and inspirational discussions and handouts that require them to fill out and follow any one of the umpteen structured outline techniques, such as the ‘hamburger’, ‘keyhole’, ‘petal, or ‘peel’.

I quickly realized that the methodologies employed in the classroom had to change.

Students needed to see English teachers write paragraphs and essays sentence-by-sentence, exactly the same way Math teachers solved complex math problems in front of students, step-by-step, so they could comprehend the logic.

The English whiteboard needed to be full of words, and not just a single sentence that stated the assignment topic, the same way Math whiteboards were covered with formulas and numbers.

Writing and interpretation is as active of a process as problem solving in the sciences and maths,

and it has to be modeled, so students can easily mirror and internalize the processes.

That’s why I created

The D. M. A. Method

A time-tested writing program that uses classroom approved fiction and non-fiction texts to help students understand and internalize analytical tools that develop their ability to independently write outstanding essays that demonstrate analysis, so they regain control of their academic paths.

ANALYZE

Teachers demonstrate how to analyze and write academic essays, so students can see and understand the step-by-step logic of academic writing

MIRROR

Students mirror the analytical and writing processes developing their focus and confidence and internalizing the two processes

DEMOSTRATE

Students integrate analysis into their essays demonstrating sophisticated thought and style while sharpening their writer’s voice and ability to view texts critically

Tap into your potential and achieve excellence by clearly demonstrating analytical insights on every exam and in every single assignment and essay you write.
